- On-site
- Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands
Job description
About AFS Energy
AFS Energy is an international-oriented scale-up in the heart of Amsterdam. We deal with opportunities and developments in Renewable Energy every day. With an increasing number of organizations striving to reduce their emissions, AFS Energy has emerged as a key player in Europe, offering crucial support in achieving sustainability goals. Our work involves procurement, market access, and advisory services across various environmental markets. From transitioning to renewable energy sources such as green electricity and green gas to promoting CO2-reduction projects, the possibilities for making the world a more sustainable place are limitless.
Internship Description
We are seeking an econometrics student or graduate to find and articulate the relationship between various renewable energy products in Europe, traditional energy market and market data. The project will involve analysing historical price data, market fundamentals, and external factors such as weather patterns, policy changes, and supply-demand dynamics to design a robust model for explaining the effects of increase biomass prices, hydro storage, wind changes and others, on the price of renewable energy.
The intern will apply econometric techniques, machine learning, and time-series analysis to identify market inefficiencies and optimize trading decisions. The goal is to build a model that enhances risk assessment and decision-making in forward trading within the OTC market.
At AFS, we have extensive internal pricing and interest data. This internship will focus on integrating these datasets with external market drivers to develop a data-driven model that supports efficient and sustainable energy market operations.
Ideal candidates should have a strong background in econometrics, statistical modeling, and programming skills (Python, R, or MATLAB or other econometric software tools). Prior knowledge of energy markets and financial trading is a plus.
We are extending our expertise to use more data for trading. Together with your internship/thesis supervisor and the Product Development team/GO desk, you will conduct in-depth market research on environmental commodities trading, providing valuable insights that will shape our trading strategy. This position can either be done as an internship or as a thesis topic.
